Statement

Ever since I was a child I have been interested with nature and the ability to capture it. Initially drawing imaginative cartoons and copying illustrations from books, moved into the exploration of landscapes and wildlife when handed my first 110mm camera. This love of photographic based media has extended into all modes of my work.

The recent creations deal with texture, light value, and creation of shapes utilizing shadows and negative space. Using the negative (or emptiness) is the connective tissue which holds my creative mind together. The affinity towards seeing within negative space is the common ground for my photography, sculpture and graphic work. The graphic creations fulfill my energetic, thrill seeking nature through quick sketch-like drawings and the study of highlights.

Influenced by nightlife, dreams, and methods of human communication, I create compositions analyzing the functions of the subconscious, emotions and language. The conceptually serious masked by the formal trivial. Use of symbols and simplified imagery enable the power of metaphor, connotation (suggestion), and the abstract. Through the common language of artistic expression, others are invited to join in the reading of this poetry, which describes environments from alternate perspective.
